Our commitment to Jesus should grow with our understanding of God, - TopicsExpress

Our commitment to Jesus should grow with our understanding of God, ourselves, and His plan. When we first began to follow Jesus, our commitment was limited to our understanding of Jesus. For example, Peter had thought his commitment could be no greater to Jesus than on the day that he said in Matthew 26:35, Though I should dies with thee, yet will I not deny thee. Peters commitment that day was sincere. however, Peters understanding of his commitment was based upon Peters will, Peters discipline, Peters emotions, and Peters strength. Jesus looked at Peter and knew the weakness of the flesh and gave Peter insight into the real strength of Peters relationship to Jesus: But I have prayed for you that your faith may no fail: and you, when once you have turned again, strengthen your brothers. All of us must learn that we are the weak link in the chain of commitment. Our own failures should cause us to transfer our trust from our commitment to Jesus to His faithfulness to us. We all should learn to pray, Dear Lord, even at my best I am an unprofitable servant. Thank you for your righteousness and your faithfulness in my behalf. Lord, my confidence is not in the promises that I make to you, because I know that I have broken promises in the past. My confidence is in your promise to me. I know even in my weakness, you will remain faithful to your promises.
