Our daughter, Sue, was honored for her achievements at the Hospital where she lead the Palliative Care Program to rapid acceptance and Certification. I was ask to say a few words. You might be interested to read this. Her Name Is Susan Personality is both given and learned. It is shaped by desire, and consequences. cc Character results from experience, experimentation, impact of results, adjustments to life’s situations, and the accumulation of wisdom. A person forms and develops in the environs of family, neighborhoods, educational systems, and work groups. All of this forming and development is guided by ones accepted beliefs. In her lifetime, Sue has loved family, friends, neighbors, the pursuit of education, and colleagues. All in accord with her own belief that we need each other. You folks, her colleagues, have experienced Sue’s competencies and contributed to her successes. You have shaped her professional thinking, supported her accomplishments, and contributed to her feeling of satisfaction at work and in all of life. Barbara and I, our neighbors, and our communities enabled Sue to join you with a belief system that includes caring for the sick, and comforting those with serious illness. I believe that the most import witnesses to her accomplishments, and yours, are the thousands of people who have benefited from your gifts, your talents, your skills, and your caring. Each of you, her teammates, has enabled Sue to rise to the high level of accomplishments she has achieved. One of those attainments being the accreditation of the Palliative Care Program. The accomplishments of Sue are hers. I observe that she shares the joys, sorrows, and accomplishments of her life with each of you, and with our family. I observe that our neighbors, Sue’s educators, and your teams have all made significant contributions to all of humanity by assisting Sue in becoming and being a talented and caring contributor to the lives of thousands of people; each of whom our family believes is a child of God. Barbara and I want to say a special thanks to Mary Pignataro and to Dr. William Lerner for their long term personal friendship with Sue, and their support of her in this most complex, difficult, and demanding work of Palliative Care.
