Our fundamental right to LIFE & LIBERTY takes a backseat to judges RIGHT TO ENJOY HOLIDAYS. Judges all over India are currently in holiday mood, giving long dates. From first-week October till mid-January, court calendars are full of religious festivals. Supreme Court of India has holidays for six months in a year -- a world record. HIgh Courts work a bit more. Lower courts work even more -- for about eight months a year. Give thanks for small mercies. So, heres wishing our judges, lawyers etc. a very Happy Diwali and all those other other year-end festivals. One wonders whether they would look litigants and undertrials in the eye and wish them the same. Because, for every judge who enjoys Diwali holidays with his friends and family, there are possibly dozens of undertrials spending additional time in lockup, away from their families.
