Our health is just not stacking up to other countries. A report from the National Research Council and Institute of Medicine found that on average, Americans die sooner and experience higher rates of disease and injury than people in other high-income countries. The report finds that this health disadvantage exists at all ages from birth to age 75 and that even advantaged Americans - those who have health insurance, college educations, higher incomes, and healthy behaviors - appear to be sicker than their peers in other rich nations. PLACE makes health a top priority for its communities. Designed without the toxic components with which we build our buildings, designed for active living (walking, cycling), and designed with urban agriculture to provide access to nutritious food are all part of that. But perhaps just as important, is a community-building process that strengthens the connections between people. Lets reverse this unhealthy trend, one community at a time.
