Our hygienist, Linda is on her annual Op Smile mission to Vietnam. Each day we will post pictures and her letter to us./// Mission Letter 1 Hello from Vietnam, The past 3 days have been busy. For those of you on facebook, you know I arrived and am fine. The texting is working and I have been in contact with my family. This is my first opportunity to sit at a real computer. When I arrived, they didnt have a room ready at the hotel I am staying at now. I stayed with the medical group and the Hue dental team Friday and Saturday. I met a young dentist from (Rebecca) Texas and we have enjoyed being roommates. (Melissa- I am typing on a keyboard with Japanese characters) Now I am staying at the Lakeside Hotel. It is not as modern but is clean. Saturday I spent the day with my friend Le. Her daughter had a fever and I havent met her as today. We visited for a few hours in the hotel. My roommate went on a tour to Ha Long Bay. I suggested it since it was her first time here and she wouldnt get another chance to go. She was glad she did it and had a nice time. Le and I then went to the hotel I am at now to meet up with 2 other team members that we know. Carmen and Diana are from Texas- friends with Rebecca. Carman has been my team leader in the past and Diana is her hygienist and we worked together on my last mission. Both are very hard workers and I am glad to be working with them. We had a casual lunch- all Veggie and then did a little shopping to get Carmen a back scratcher for her new allergy. After a coffee with custard, to get the jet lag to stop, we split up for the evening. I had a nice relaxing dinner with my other international daughter; Yen. Sunday is a work day for my team. I got up at 5:30---yes I did! and met the team coordinator in the lobby to transfer to Lakeside Hotel and meet the rest of the team. There are about 20 of us in all including dentists from the Dominican Republic and Peru. No dental students on this mission. We have Pedodontists, Endodontists, Oral Surgeons and General Dentists. Also 3 hygienists and 1 dental assistant (a first). We had a short meeting and then went to the Hanoi Medical University to set up our clinic. The taxi took us to the clinic I worked at a few years ago but it was locked. Then we found out that they opened a new clinic. Wow!!! I couldnt believe it. We have 4 clinic rooms to work out of. Hygiene even got our own room with 2 whole chairs. There restorative and endo (root canals) has 2 rooms and extractions will be done on another floor. It is so new and clean. Look for pictures on facebook, mine or Pike Creek Dental. Now I need to go unpack again. My new roommate snores and requested a private room. We are going to try it out together tonight. I am a heavy sleeper. Le will be here soon and we will visit. We have the afternoon free and then our Welcome Dinner at 6:30. Tomorrow will be another early day. I will do my best to give you an update. We will start with 15 children in the morning and then they will send us more. We are expecting to get the orphans, and children with disabilities during this week. I am excited. By the way- no spell check here and I have to hurry so the typing is what it is. I want to thank everyone for the messages on facebook and the prayers that are being said for me and my team mates. The medical team is doing their screenings this afternoon. I know they are looking for 200 patients. Some will be sent away. Please remember them. Love to all, Linda
