Our latest blog post: Fishing in Galveston Bay ift.tt/1wJShoM Although the summer months are sailing away, that doesn’t mean you should stop enjoying the great outdoors and hang up your fishing rod just yet. The Galveston Bay is home to a large variety of aquatic life perfect for any fisherman. Just a couple miles offshore from the hustle of the Kemah Boardwalk, you can relax and reel in some of these popular fish. The males typically range from 15 to 20 inches in length, while females can grow up to 25 inches. While they like to stay in shallow waters during the summer months, now they’ll start to travel to deeper bay waters as the weather gets colder. Hardhead catfish have six spines coming from their chin and are, on average, about 10 inches long. They are known to steal bait off and can be hard to remove off the hook. But, catching and keeping on would sure be a good fish story! Image courtesy of commons.wikipedia.org Red Drum: A little further inland, you can hear the characteristic hum of the red drum fish. These fish, able to reach almost 2 feet in length, are also known to have a large black spot on the base of their tail. During late August through December, males will come to the surface of the water, vibrate their inner muscles, and produce a drumlike sound. This is used to attract females in the area. Once You’ve Reeled Your Catch On In…: Nothing completes a meal quite like a batch of fresh fish, and nothing satisfies quite like enjoying a plate of the day’s catches. But why settle for grilling your fish in your backyard, when you could dine in style out on the bay? End your next fishing trip in the most memorable way possible: by munching grilled fish on our Star Cat boat. Part of the Star Fleet list of yachts, this cruise comes with a fully functional grill and licensed captain. All you have to worry about is the food.
