Our main aim is to find out from L.E.A what their long term plans are for education in Skelmersdale. Not just now but 10,15, 20 years from now. This not only involves children now but also their children and grandchildren! Dont include Upholland High as the council seem to be including them into the equation! Are they not under Wigan??? How would Skem cope with only two schools??? Yes, birth rates have fallen over the last ten years but we are also see a change in trend and increases from 2015. 630 new houses to be built. Where do those kids go to school? Projected population they hope will increase from 35,000 to 60,000!! Two schools could never possibly cope. Over sized classes may lead to disruption in lessons creating a domino effect on GCSE results. Lathom at some point will need rebuilding, where do the kids go? This is not just about the affect on Glenburn and its pupils but also the affect it will have on the pupils of Lathom. We need to see the plans and if there has been allocation for any new builds for secondary schools in the area. We the people of Skelmersdale want regeneration, we want better facilities, we want a train station, but our priority has to be EDUCATION before everything else! We need to stand firm and fight for our youth and for the community.
