Our neighborhood rose up in full force against the KCCA impunity. - TopicsExpress

Our neighborhood rose up in full force against the KCCA impunity. A grader and pickup belonging to the contractors were commandeered by residents and three of their staff detained for trespass and malicious damage to property. With full support of DP youth we mobilized the neighborhood to resist arbitrariness. It was great seeing the middle class participate. My neighbour Lilian Babihuga who is also Executive Assistant to the Bank of Uganda Governor appeared in person to protest with us. The police came but seeing the cause behind our indignation acted in an uncharacteristically enlightened way by not siding with KCCA. Our protest was focused and effective because at the end of the day the contractors agreed to rebuild the walls they damaged. We have now resolved to launch a neighborhood association to safeguard our interests. It is inconceivable that people can be organized without an Organisation. Our area councillor Apollo Mugume and Rubaga Councillor came to the scene and joined in denouncing the unwarranted demolition. The road design is for ten meters but the contractor went far beyond hence damaging our property. I told the contractors to start by repairing neighboring homes and work on our place last.
