Our piss poor/lack of environmental policy allowed BP to pump and spray 1.9 million gallons of an oil dispersant named Corexit into the gulf. Corexit is banned in many countries (18 is what I have read) including the United Kingdom where BP operates out of. Corexit has been shown in a published, peer reviewed study from the Environmental Pollution journal, that when combined with oil the solution becomes 52 times as toxic. This is causing a wide range of health symptoms for gulf residents (cognitive, skin rashes, respiratory to name a few) and is currently in the so called safe to eat seafood being sold from the gulf (who cares if people get sick as long the economy is rolling right?). It also submerges the oil particles it encases which, is said to be killing all sorts of ocean life under the surface, and because of this BP injected it into the water to be dispersed directly at the site of the break in the oil pipe leaking. This in theory would allow the oil to sink before reaching the surface which would make the oil spill appear much less severe than if it was applied only at the surface because cameras would not see it. This is the first time this practice of injecting an oil dispersant has ever been used. This photo is proof the of the genocide BP is committing on the Gulf of Mexicos ecosystem that is compromising the health and pursuit of happiness for all Gulf residents.
