Our responce to too old for #CancerTreatment : Too Old to Treat? I agree with Ciarán Devane and Macmillan Cancer Support that It’s wrong to write off older people as too old for treatment. Our experience at BeatCancer.org with thousands of patients in their 60s, 70s and 80s echoes the British findings that seniors can often achieve long-term recovery from a wide variety of cancers. However, too old for treatment may be a blessing in disguise. Oncologists assessing risk/benefit ratios may not wish to subject older patients to the potentially severe side effects of chemotherapy or radiation. The upside for those patients not taking conventional cancer treatment is that the nutritional and immune-boosting approaches we recommend are often very effective at extending cancer survival and greatly improving quality of life.
