Our sad tale of whoa is finally over. We had our primary Point-of-Sale computer crash to a permanent death. The good news: the owner knew it would happen some day so he made a full disk image and bought a replacement disk that sat in a back office, unopened. Our team also performed daily backups of the data onto a separate computer. The bad news: after the crash, the backup disk image would not restore. After many long nights and numerous tactics with lots of tech support to get it to restore, we had to give up. We had to ring up sales by hand. We missed the automatic math calculations! The good news: We bought a brand new computer. Yippee! The bad news: The older POS software (our cash register system) and our timecard system would not operated properly on this new computer. The good news: We bought a brand new POS system that includes a time card system built in. They promised it would import the latest backup from the previous system (the daily backups that held the whole database). In the meantime, we rigged up a spreadsheet to track timecards and do sales tracking and calculations! The bad news: The barcode scanner, cash register, and receipt printer would not work on the new system. Also, once it was installed, it would not import the backed up database because the backup from a much older version than the import feature could handle. The good news: After some negotiating, we got the POS company to convert our database for us. The bad news: It took several days for them to convert the database. The good news: It converted PERFECTLY and we have all historical data as it was. We were able to go back and re-enter the sales we missed while the system was down. We got it interfaced to our accounting system again. We ran a successful payroll too. We figured out how to get the barcode scanner to work and after buying a new receipt printer, we got the cash register to operate as well. Thank you for your help, Advanced Development Concepts, LLC. The bad news: We lost some photos that we took of guests, which were temporarily stored on that computer before they got downloaded into our email computer. We estimate it was about 6 or 8 photos. Also, this was a very expensive ordeal. The good news: Our customers were (mostly) very patient with us and understanding. Last weekend provided us an extremely busy Sunday, with about double the sales we normally have. And while it was all on a manual system, we got through it. #GoodAndBad #ADC #IntuitSavesTheDay
