Our story, (I apologize for the length) You know it seems sometimes that life just goes along and then there is the preverbal bump in the road. I don’t mean life gets boring or anything, it’s that life happens but the road we travel has potholes. Sometimes-big ones. Our lives may stall a while at these points, probably because it takes a while to crawl out of the pothole, and ask God; what ‘s this all about? What are you trying to teach me? What is the lesson for this season in my life? A verse I have turned to for more years than I care to remember is found in James 1: 2 Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, 3 for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. 4 And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing. Wow lacking nothing in faith, life and my relationship with God. It can’t get any better than that. I have come to realize that this does not happen over night. Maybe it will take a lifetime. When I was younger and experienced what I thought was more then my fair share of trials, there was always some exciting anticipation, wondering what God had in His lesson plans for our family. It was in those times my faith grew along with my relationship with God. James 4:8 tells us, come closer to God and He will come near you. Well this particular story; began a few months ago, hearing that our daughter in-law’s mother’s cancer had returned. Living in America we have a lot of things we take for granted, like health care. Other countries are not so lucky. So seeing your kids’ pain as they deal with a loved ones health deteriorating and the void caused by loss is tuff. Especially when you are one of those parents who likes to fix things from broken bicycles to broken hearts. This when we need to draw closer to God and He will draw near to us, healing the broken heart and filling the voids in our lives. Then there are times when the tests are a little closer to home. About 2 months ago I found out that I have a congenital condition with my hips and that one of them needs to be replaced. Not a good thing for someone who thinks he is eternally young and fit. Now I am not sure how to make this transition to what is going on now but three and half weeks ago I had the honor of participating in the 50 and over thriller “the colonoscopy”. To make it short and to the point tomorrow Friday the 5th of July I am going for surgery to have a section of the large intestine removed. Well the exciting anticipation of what lessons I am to learn has waned a little since my youth and I am a little anxious about the surgery. Although the real story here is how God works in our lives and how humbling it is when you realize to what detail. Well the exciting anticipation of what lessons I am to learn has waned a little since my youth and I am a little anxious about the surgery. Although the real story here is how God works in our lives and how humbling it is when you realize to what detail. Let me share: 1. Briefly, missing work for me, there is never a good time to be away especially when I cannot control it. The deal is right now is the best time to miss work. God has worked out the schedule and the people to be just right. 2. Last weekend we spent it with our daughter and son in-law. 3. Today we are able to be with our son and daughter in-law, who just came back from Peru on Sunday and still dealing with their loss. 4. They are going to stay around a couple of days before and after the surgery to be with Lorna. This is a real comfort to me, as she does not have to be alone. 5. We have family and friends praying for us. 6. I have a lovely wife who is by my side and so supportive. 7. Realizing God’s timing in our lives. 8. Most of all God is near. If you have read this to the end, at the beginning I should have said “His Story”
