Our world is so bloomin complex at present!! Fortunately, judgment on murder is clear-cut and I feel very sorry to hear that this has taken place in France. Im not familiar with this magazine and perhaps I can only liken its situation to that of South Park (??). Often South Park represents gritty issues which most societies would prefer swept under the carpet and forgotten, but it does also make judgement calls on other cultures and beliefs from the Western perspective and thus the narrative can carry cultural bias - superiority of one versus another. (fyi - groups which have taken umbage with South Park: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/South_Park_controversies ) I thought this article did identify some things that have transpired, since it was penned, namely David Cameron declaring unity with France and its stand against terrorism/terrorist acts. He did this while still acknowledging that he didnt actually know any details yet; the directive to think one-way before facts emerge which could dispel the image being seeded. And inevitably, as more one-off crimes pepper Western world countries, the culmination will have us checking under our beds at night. It becomes a matter of attrition and neuro-linguistic repetition (fancy term for repetition and the brainwashing effect). Another important thing to remember is that once communicated, it cant be un-communicated, so each time we hear these predictions from our Leaders (or in his case Englands PM) it sticks. At least some remnant of the message stays with us; and most significantly the commonality of the messages, e.g. ISIS terrorism. The questions I ask myself is - do other countries regularly lampoon our beliefs and ways, in the manner that we do theirs? And at a time when some of us are questioning media integrity, honesty and frankly ability; this event has been translated into journalistic freedom of speech. Historically, freedom of speech was a most august thing, but today when we reward Judith Collins with a Sunday Star Times column and Cameron Slater is awarded a journalism gong for his blog, and Nicky Hager has to prove that he is a journalist and thus can protect his sources... our world is so bloomin complex.
