Out here on the West Coast, the Santa Ana winds usually blow out to sea on Christmas...they are called the Santa Ana winds, because our normal on-shore breezes (from the Pacific Ocean onto the shores of SoCal) turn around and blow from the Mojave Desert out to sea through the Santa Ana canyon area. This occurs when a High pressure area sits over the Four Corners (Utah, Arizona, Colorado, and New Mexico) area and this pushes wind toward Low pressure areas to the West...when this happens, the smog gets blown away and we get clear, breezy skies with the San Gabriel Mountains in the background to our east...enjoy these photos, even though they dont do the day justice... Taken on the San Gabriel River overpass on Alondra Blvd, Bellflower/Norwalk, CA...my neck of the neighbor-hood! ;-)
