Out in the blizzard this evening - checking to see if the Tourists sign is still on the 255 High St house much in the news here and there recently. YES!! That tiny largely overlooked detail is as priceless as any artifact downtown. It speaks to a world that was lost after I-84 smashed through this neighborhood - cutting it off from downtown - a world where the hospitality industry - such as it is - was still substantially home-grown and domestic; where folks, to make a little extra change (think Airbnb), rented rooms in their houses - and of a time when there may have been more tourism to Hartford then there is now. WE HAVE GOT TO SAVE THIS HOUSE!
