Out of the series How to become a good producer: 1) Give your files proper tags, incl. artwork. Mind grammar and upper/lower case. Dont write bullshit into the COMMENT field. 2) Write proper file names: Artist - Title (Mix). Theres no point in writing (Original Mix), though. Its logical that its an original mix when its not something else. 3) If youre not a very good English speaking person, make sure your titles are REAL English words (in case you use English). Its more than awkward when you misspell English words for titles. Same goes for any other language, of course. 4) Dont name a mix Acid Whatever Mix when its ... well, not containing any (significant) Acid elements. Same goes for any other style. 5) Write/program your own beats, melodies and whatnot. Stop using bullshit samples/loops that you can hear in 400 other productions, or at least modify them in a way that theyre actually *new* sounds. Be unique. 6) Be patient. Rome wasnt built in one day. Play around, give yourself and the music the time it needs to kick ass. Rather spend 4 days to find that one sound than throwing in presets that sound ... well, like presets. Design your own sounds, develop your own style. Create trends instead of following them. Be a creator, not a creature. But also: throw things into the bin that just dont work. Start something fresh and new when you dont feel 100% happy with something. 7) Dont put lots of money and energy into buying shit-hot gear when you dont know how to make proper use of it. Mostly, the best music comes from the simplest set-ups. Less is more. What sounds good on cheap loudspeakers sounds good everywhere. Expensive and fancy gear might impress your friends and might be good for Instagram pics of your fancy studio, but it doesnt make your music better at all.
