Outcome of the meeting with Hon. Home Minister on 29/01/2014 Dear all Please find below the outcome of today’s meeting. Our efforts and hard work have paid off though, we need to be persistent till all demands are met. The disappearance and subsequent brutal murder of Ms. Esther Anuhya has become the cause for genuine concern about the safety of women travelers to the city and within. In view of the same, the Harmony Foundation led a delegation of several NGOs yesterday, 29th January 2014, to meet the Home Minister Shri R.R. Patil to present a Charter of Demands concerning the safety of women at railway stations and other entry points in the city. The Home Minister, on seeing the urgency of the need of safety of women, called for an emergency meeting this morning at his office, which was attended by the Joint C.P. (L & O), Joint C.P. (Traffic), Railway Police Commissioner and the Transport Commissioner to ensure the immediate implementation of the following demands: The charter of Demands outlining the safety of women accepted by Home Minister - Immediate implementation assured to most of the demands. 1) Names of auto/taxi drivers ferrying women passengers from railway stations and their vehicle numbers to be recorded by Police – to be implemented from tonight itself. 2) Name of driver, vehicle registration number will be displayed prominently on the passenger seat of autos and taxis. 3) Women passengers will be given priority at the prepaid taxi counters at LTT, Dadar, Mumbai Central and Bandra railway stations. 4) Complaints of missing women will be accepted at any Police station, irrespective of jurisdiction, and the case will be transferred thereafter to any other Police station, if need be. 5) CCTV cameras will be installed at strategic places viz. Auto/taxi stands outside railway stations. Regards aaboo :-) Aaboo Varghese
