Over the next few I will be featuring some of the metal prints I have from this season on display at Full City Cafe. Sunset at Autzen: Do you know how hard it is to get a good sunset shot at Autzen? I have been trying for the the last several years Ive been shooting the games and the opportunities are just far and few between. First of all, the game time has to be right. You cant have Autzen emptying out after an afternoon game or filling up before an evening game- it has to be packed with the team on the field. Also you need the right sky - if its too sunny (yes I said too sunny) there are no clouds - which means no drama . You cant have any liquid sunshine either. Then you have to be in the right place with the right lens. The game had just started, I saw the sky might be promising, I grabbed the wide angle and left the field running up the north side of the stands to the top to take a shot from the 50yard line. The sky was extremely dark over the sky boxes and the sunset was only in the far right side of the shot. So I ran to the raised wheelchair section built up at the high corner of the north-east endzone for a better vantage point and view of the sun setting over the horizon of the stadium as I arrived. Perfect! Ive waited years for this shot! And then: the horn went off as the Ducks had just made the first Touchdown of the 2014 season!!! The crowd erupts! Click! That makes this my favorite shot of this season.
