Over the weekend there was a story making the rounds that a popular pastor made a comment about unleashing the gates of Hell. Some have said it is not true, that he was quoted out of context. I am not discussing whether or not he said it and whether it is a good/right thing to say or not. What prompted this post is some comments I saw on Twitter where the commentators were warning people to apologize to the man of God lest they die or face some other dire fate within 24 hours etc. I had to ask myself, is he God?. Many of us have outsourced our Bible study to Pastors and dont know anything for ourselves beyond what the pastor says. Over time these pastors train us to exalt them and deaden our capacity to reason so that when they teach false doctrines that glorify (and enrich!) man we are powerless to recognize it much less oppose them. They are after-all Gods anointed! There is honor and there is worship and they are not the same thing! Only the Great I Am is infallible and worthy of worship! If you believe your pastor to the point of being unable to tell when he is leading you astray with false teaching then you are worshiping him not honoring; if you cannot approach God for all that you need for life and godliness, except through your pastor then you are worshiping him not honoring. Take heed unto yourself and your doctrine lest you attempt to divert Gods glory to any mortal for He is a jealous God and will NEVER share His glory.
