Over the years of being a barista, Ive heard some incredible stories. Some really beautiful, but some deeply tragic. I think there is safety in the two-minute interaction that emboldens people to be vulnerable and candid. Its usually quite shocking, and takes me a moment to recover after I ask someone how they are doing and receive genuine responses about death, heart break, hospitals and betrayal. But I feel honored in that moment, that even though I really could be any face as the recipient, that it is me. And in that moment, I get to to try my very hardest to be love.
