Overdue Movie Reviews (4): The Lone Ranger... Possible $5 bin buy when there isnt anything better available. Better than the critics would have you believe, but Depp as Tonto calling HIMSELF an Indian makes no sense. Edit: Depp as Tonto...makes no sense. Oh, and no one needs a close up of a horse pooping. One of Verbinskis few misfires. The Croods... Meh. Nicolas Cage was WAY miscast as Grug (?). Not earthy enough. Emma Stone and Ryan Reynolds, on the other hand, did a good job with they had to work with. Not much in the way of plot...and not all that funny or cute. I did, however, think the caveman photographs were LOL funny. Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters...Ha! This movie was MUCH better than it had any reason to be. My favorite from this list tonight. Bonus points for going with practical live action effects for the trolls...something the Hobbit could have benefitted from. Probably my favorite Jeremy Renner performance to date. And Gemma Arterton can kick some serious butt! Totally could see as Wonder Woman (behind my first personal choice: Gina Carano). But I digress. The Road... Hmmm. On the fence with this one. On one hand, it totally bucked the predictability police for 75% of its runtime. So many close calls that I thought for sure would end up bad for the protagonists. Not so. I think I liked that they kept the mystery of what triggered the end of the world...but I still want to know why. It would have helped the viewer understand some motivations behind some characters. Negative points for how many times we see Viggos rear end (-2)...by choice...when you can see their breath in the cold... Why? **shrugs** Thats it for tonight. If you read this post all the way through...I thank you. Perhaps my opinion does provide value from time to time.
