Overly paranoid worry wart Momma or Justified? Tell me your true opinion. I can take it. ;) So there has been a series of break-ins in and around my neighborhood, including a night where three houses on my street of 8 townhomes were broken into, 3 laptop computers were stolen, racial slurs were carved into big screen televisions, and a woman was held at knife point. There was also recently in a nearby town, an incident where two men who posed as property repairmen were let into the home by a woman as she was expecting a repairman. They proceeded to bind her hands behind her back and take her from room to room telling her to point out all the valuables while they took them. So anyway…. I swear I have a point. My town recently made a new law that all rental units must be inspected by the city once a year. I had my inspection last week. When the inspector arrived, I asked for his ID which I always do when any type of repairman or inspector, or anything of that nature comes, but I am even more diligent about it given the recent happenings and just being a single mom with just me and a young child home. The inspector acted like I’d just asked for his first-born child. Then he said he didn’t have his inspector license on him and I said that was fine, his drivers’ license will do as I had his name from the notice and had called to confirm the time window and inspector name that morning. He did eventually give it to me and I then proceeded to let him in to inspect. My question I guess is…. Does anybody else do this? Or am I really just “weird”? I’d rather ask a hundred people for identification that were harmless than not ask a person who is harmful. And I feel if the roles were reversed, I’d gladly hand over my ID and I’d probably comment that I agree it’s a safe choice and that you can never be too careful when it comes to family safety inside or outside the home.
