P.443/4.......Reference to previous two scripts, to have an idea about the British commanding philosophy: In an effort to break politics away from sectarian allegiance, a group of tribal and intelligentsia, headed by Ibrahim Badri, a retired administrative official, formed the Socialists Republican Party, in 1951, with the objective to setting up an independent republican form of government in friendly relation with both, England & Egypt. This almost coincided with a new @Sudan Party, led by a competent Journalist, Mohammed Ahmed Omar, and a southern member of the Legislative Assembly, sayyed Buth-Dui, which aimed to dominion status within the BritishCommonwealth, The best summary of those development has been written by: A) Mr. Mekki Abbas, There is ample advance that in the two periodsof intensive political activity which followed the two world wars the educated Sudaneses begen with one common aim, thatof independence of the Sudan. Later in each period they splet into two camps, one seeking independence and the other a form of unity with Egypt. There were two reasons for this. the first was that those who sought unity with Egypt, in both period did so after they sought that the Sudan Government, which to them represented the British Government, alone and not the Government og Great Britian and Egypt, was not sympathetic with Sudanese aspirations for independence. The second was that Egypt did her best by various means to win the educated Sudanese to her side. B) Sir, Harold MacMichael, a former Civil Secretary, commented on this: Those who advocate union with Egypt have little more affection for that country and no more intention of accepting a position of subservience than their opponents. The operative motive is simply the deep-seated fear and dislike which the former group have felt for the latter ever since the rise of the Mahdi in 1881. For them, the assistance and support of egyptians promises some guarantee, after the withdrawal of the British administration, against the domination og their more powerful and wealthy rivals. If these two parties can reconcile their differences by compromise, and if the graet tribals leaders- who are not inclined to give unqualified support to either- and the negro Southerners, who are distrusful of their own ability at present to avoid over-rule by the Northerners, can be brought into line, there is nothing to prevent the Sudan settling its OWN destiny forthwith. ........to follow.
