P.M. SLIDE FIRE UPDATE: Nearly 21,000 acres. 45% containment. Burnout operations are nearly complete. Mop up efforts to continue. Crews will gradually be pulled off the fire. Air quality in the Sedona area was at a hazardous level for most of the day. ADEQ reported unhealthy levels of soot and other particulates. Flagstaff, Pine and several other communities reported heavy smoke as well. The Manzanita Campground and the Grasshopper Point day-use area in Oak Creek Canyon will reopen tomorrow. A mandatory evacuation order remains in effect for canyon residents. Both the Coconino and Kaibab National Forests, as well as the city of Flagstaff, will implement Stage II fire restrictions beginning Friday. Due to increasing containment of the fire, the demand for daily press briefings is down. The Southwest Area Incident Management Team will conduct media briefs if significant events arise.
