PAINTING COURSES AT CHAPEL COTTAGE STUDIO, ABERGAVENNY FOR 2015 I love teaching at this venue! It is a fabulous location, nestled into the Welsh countryside just 4 miles out of the picturesque market town of Abergavenny. Run by artist Jantien Powell and her daughter Tirza Snook, Chapel Cottage Studio holds a wide selection of art workshops throughout the year that are suitable for all abilities. 2015 will be my 5th year tutoring here (told you I love it!!) and Jantien has given me the opportunity to run three workshops. They are: 7th February – THE BALLERINA IN WATERCOLOUR Back by popular demand, this themed life class provides the opportunity to draw and paint from an experienced ballerina. Starting with charcoal studies to gain an understanding of form and proportion, we will then progress to watercolour techniques for capturing the graceful lines of this wonderful subject. 30th May – ALLA PRIMA OILS - RIVER SCENES Rivers always provide great inspiration for the landscape painter and this course will focus on methods for capturing trees, water and reflections in the direct, alla prima style. Starting in the studio to practice techniques, the plan is to put it all into practice painting out doors on the banks of the Usk. 13th and 14th June – 2 DAY COURSE DEVELOPING A WATERCOLOUR FROM ON-SITE TONAL SKETCHES Taking the local landscape and buildings as our subject matter, this 2 day course will cover techniques for creating effective tonal sketches and gathering sufficient reference out of doors to produce a finished painting back in the studio.
