PARTING SHOT... We’ve talked a lot about President Obama’s speech on the NSA today. We also celebrate the birthday of Martin Luther King, Jr. – And there’s a connection between the two. Remember, while all Americans honor the memory of MLK today, that wasn’t the case during his lifetime. He was thrown in jail. People called him a Communist agitator. And J. Edgar Hoover, who considered King a dangerous enemy, ordered FBI agents to listen in on King’s phone calls and bug his hotel rooms in order to get dirt on him. Well, today, the government’s spying on all of us. Not the FBI, but the NSA. And Friday President Obama, a big defender of NSA, had to admit the agency was going too far and call for new rules to safeguard our right of privacy. Now, here’s the connection. We only found out about Hoover’s spying on MLK before a group of peace activists broke into FBI offices in Boston. And we only found out about NSA’s massive phone collection program because Edward Snowden blew the whistle. We salute those peace activists today for exposing the FBI. We should salute Edward Snowden for exposing the NSA. That’s my parting shot for today. I’m Bill Press...
