PDP, ALLOW ALAO-AKALA! #Gang-up Against Alao-Akala not in PDP’s Interest —Chieftain# A chieftain of the PDP in Oyo State, Michael Okunlade, has condemned the clamour by seven governorship aspirants that an Ibadan indigene must emerge as candidate for next year’s election. Okunlade, who spoke on behalf of young PDP leaders from Oke Ogun area of the state, said the call was against the tenet of democracy and an insult to people of other geopolitical zones in the state. He described the “gang-up” as being targeted at stopping former governor, Chief Adebayo Alao-Akala from clinching the ticket, noting that the former governor remained the only unifying candidate that could end factions and return the party to power in the state. “The decision of the adhoc association of Ibadan PDP governorship aspirants is uncalled for in this modern time when tribal politics, globally, has been confined to the dustbin of history. “There can’t be PDP in Oyo State without Alao-Akala. The PDP National Working Committee (NWC) should disregard the selfish position and conduct discreet survey on all the aspirants in Ibadan and it will be clear to them that Alao-Akala is even more popular than all of the so-called Ibadan aspirants. “This type of gang up is not new in PDP. A group of 13 aspirants ganged up against Mr Ayodele Fayose in Ekiti and the rest is now history. Their selfish opinion does not represent the opinion of the entire Ibadan indigenes and residents, who are earnestly yearning for the return of Alao-Akala,” he said.
