PDP MAKES U TURN ON URBAN RENEWAL OF AREGBESOLA. The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state of Osun has made a u-turn over its decision to resist the demolition of its campaign office perimeter fence. The PDP at a meeting with government official mediated by the Commissioner in the state, Mrs Dorothy Gimba was to reach peaceful a peaceful resolution of the crisis. Alhaji Gani Ola-Oluwa led the party delegation, while the state commissioner for Information and Strategy led government team to the meeting. The PDP disclosed that the state government failed to notify it on when and how the demolition is going to be effected, insisting on going to court to challenge the action. Also, the party’s scribe Major Raphael Towobola(rtd) disclosed that government ought to seek the permission of the federal government before embarking on such beautification, saying the move is to frustrate the party. However, in his address, Mr Akere berated the claims of the party leaders, saying all the affected buildings had been marked for demolition since January 2, 2012, adding that another notice was dispatched six months before the commencement of the exercise. He said the governor’s campaign office perimeter fence had been demolished while the PDP used armed thugs to disrupt the same exercise at their campaign office berating the party leaders for embracing violence. He also encouraged them to go to court, saying the present administration is law abiding and would await the decision of court. However, the police boss urged both parties to reach a compromise rather than approaching the court, saying the actions of government is in the interest of development for the city. Thereafter, a 48 hours notice, specifying the extent of space to be affected was served on the party leaders, who in turn promised to prevail on their members to vacate the premise for the exercise to be carried out. Others government officials include Special Adviserto the Governor on Land, physical planning and Urban development, Dr. Isiaka Owoade, the Ministry ,s General Manager, while on the PDP side were Mr B. T. Salam a Surveyor and the party’s legal adviser.
