PDP brings motions on killing spree, DM expose Srinagar: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) today served two motions in the legislative Assembly and Council to discuss the recent expose made by Defence Ministry (DM) about the extra constitutional methods adopted in J&K reportedly since 1947 to subvert democratic system in the state. The party served notice for special discussion in the subject. The party also filed an adjournment motion for discussing the series of killings of innocent people in incidents at Gool, Kishtwar, Shopian and Markundal Bandipora, which have compounded sense of insecurity among masses. The party Chief Spokesperson Naeem Akhtar said these notices have been submitted to the speaker of the Legislative Assembly today. According to him similar notices have been submitted to the Chairman of Legislative Council for discussion in the upper House. However, the MLA Kulgam and State Secretary CPI (M), Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami today called for an exclusive debate in the Legislative Assembly over the incidents of day-to-day killings in various parts of the State adding that ordering inquiries into these killings have lost its meaning. Taking part in obituary references made in the Legislative Assembly on inaugural day of its seven-day long autumn session, Tarigami said people have lost trust and confidence on the whole system including administration and Legislature and are laughing on announcing enquiries on each and every killing incident. He said people are feeling themselves helpless adding that if the prevailing tendency of helplessness and erosion of trust among the people is not addressed appropriately, it will be big causality and cause irreparable damage to the democratic values in the State. He said that incidents of killings and bloodshed and meaningless inquiries on them since 2010, that have taken place in various parts of the State, has created a perception of deceit and lie among the people which has dented prestige of the democratic set up and have lowered integrity of the State Legislature. He said democracy demands that we should conduct our introspection and be accountable before the people for our responsibilities and deeds. PDP MLC Naeem Akhter expressed serious concern over what he called unabated killings of innocents taking place in Jammu and Kashmir. He sought time for a brief intervention which was granted to him. He said it is very unfortunate that the Jammu and Kashmir is witnessing unabated killings of innocent people. "Given these innocent killings, I think a general state of mourning should be declared on the pattern of state of emergency," he observed. Giving vent to his emotions, Akhter said that he wants to register his will which should be recorded in the Council. "When I die and if the state continues to be witnessing the same bloodshed, no obituary reference be made on my name nor should be any condolence resolutions passed in this august House, she said emotionally.
