PDP candidate,Jimoh Olawole declares APC winner in Kwara council polls A councillorship candidate, Jimoh Olawole contesting under the umbrella of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in Offa Local Government Area of Kwara State has shown what many will call leadership by example, when he rejected his own victory after been declared winner in the last Saturday’s council election. After the elections, the result announced by the Kwara State Independent Electoral Commission (KWASIEC), declared the PDP candidate winner in the ward but Olawale rejected the result saying the All Progressives’ Congress (APC) had more votes than the PDP. According to him, APC polled 1,213 to defeat PDP, which he said had only 568 votes. During a press conference organised by chieftains from the APC, in Offa on Wednesday, the party debunked KWASIEC’s claims of a PDP victory in the ward. Also present was a presiding officer in the election, Mr. Oyetunji Akeem, who came with copies of the results in Shawo Central. He said, going by the counting he witnessed after voting, PDP candidates did not win even a single polling unit out of the eight polling units in the ward. A member of the Kwara State House of Assembly, Hon. Hassan Oyeleke, also speaking at the press conference, disclosed that out of the 86 polling centres, KWASIEC recorded 500 votes each and this would have accounted for 43,000 votes as against the 57,000 that the Commission earlier announced. The APC Chairmanship candidate in the election, Prince Saheed Popoola has also blamed KWASIEC and its chairman, Dr. Uthman Ajidagba for their attempts to manipulate the election results.
