PDP president Mehbooba Mufti on Wednesday, while invoking former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee, hinted that her party was not averse to joining hands with the BJP. She met Jammu and Kashmir Governor N.N. Vohra and sought more time for her party to take a decision on government formation in the State. While she did not reveal information about the conversation with the Governor, Ms Mufti told the press that her meeting with Mr. Vohra was informal and she repeated that her party did not want to cobble together a majority for the sake of government formation. Ms. Mufti said that any government that is formed should respect the mandate of the people and be for the principle of reconciliation, hinting thereby at a PDP-BJP alliance. Till that is not taken along, forming any government will be useless, she said. Ms. Mufti called the verdict a decisive yet divided one and said that it was a big responsibility for PM Narendra Modi. Ms. Mufti invoked Mr. Vajpayee and said no development is possible till the former PMs political process was not taken forward. There can be no development till there is peace on the ground, Ms. Mufti said. Ms. Mufti also cited that the party had support of 55 legislators to form the government (PDP+NC+Congress) but said that it was the peoples mandate that needed to be respected.
