PDP raises Shopian killings in Assembly Omar failed to save Guru: Mehbooba Srinagar, Oct 01 (KNS): Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti today said she was ready to leave Legislative Assembly if any among the 120 civilians killed during 2010 agitation is proven to be a militant. Starting the discussion on Shopian and other incidents which witnessed civilian killings in the House today, PDP president said there is no accountability for the civilian killings as it seems the security forces have been given a free hand to kill. Mehbooba said unfortunately the state government is trying to hide its failures vis-à-vis stopping the innocent killings under the cover of former army chief Gen V K Singh’s remarks, which off course demand a serious and separate discussion but not at the cost of discussing unending bloodshed taking place in the state. She said her party is interested in discussing Singh’s remarks and it has already moved a motion on it. “I hope we live the day the former chief is brought here to face us. It will be really a historic day for all of us. But I fear that you cannot do that given the fact that you have not been able to take action against a simple constable for 2010 killings,” she said. She said it was the height of atrocities that when elitist class of the country was enjoying Zubin Mehta concert, and rightly so, the CRPF men killed innocent civilians in Shopian town. “What was more pathetic that there is no FIR registered for almost 12 days for the cold blooded murder of Tawseef and others,” she informed the House. She said that it seems Delhi and the present state government wants to tire up the people so that they well fell on their knees and restore their normal business. “But how long will this continue. Your government has lost its credibility and the people are not ready to accept anything you say,” she said. She said that sometimes she thinks that it is because of her that people of Shopian are being victimized. “I sometimes tell my father that in what mess we are living. You do not punish the police and CRPF personnel responsible for 2010 cold blooded murders that took place in Anantnag. Instead you rewarded the police officer responsible for those killings. We will have to see whether we want to live as a colony or we want to assert.” Mehbooba said it was very unfortunate that Omar Abdullah, Chief Minister of a special state was not able to save Afzal Guru from gallows. “When the Tamil Nadu and Punjab could intervene and save their citizens from the death penalties why you could not do it?”
