PERSEVERANCE Most extraordinary achievers attained success just beyond the point when everything appeared to have crumbled. Col. Sanders, of the Kentucky Fried Chicken fame, tried a record 1009 attempts before he signed up his first franchisee. Thomas Edison is reported to have tried at least 10,000 experiments before he discovered that tungsten had the necessary qualities to serve as a filament for his light bulb invention. This clearly demonstrates that for you, the quality of perseverance is an absolute must. Do you have what it takes to continue to pursue your vision even though the odds appear to be heavily stacked up against you? Are you stubborn enough to stand for what you believe in even though everyone around you is singing a different tune? According to Napoleon Hill, author of Think and Grow Rich, the quality of perseverance strengthens the resolve of a person in the same manner than carbon strengthens iron to produce steel. Most successes are attained when failure appears to be imminent. After a grueling court battle that went on for far too long it looked as if Econets Strive Masiyiwa had lost everything. And yet victory was just around the corner. After 27 years in prison one would have expected Nelson Mandela to give up hope. But fortunately Madiba was made of sterner stuff. And his perseverance paid off when he became the first president of a democratic South Africa. So, if you were thinking of throwing in the towel I suggest you abandon such thoughts.
