SCUNTHORPE High Street supermarket is planning to give away free food – but the boss doubts if shoppers will take him seriously. Simon Furniss, 45, who runs Food For Less, said hes tried to give it away before and has been shocked at how few people have taken him up on the offer. Now hes hoping more people will take him up on his generosity and stop valuable food going to waste. Simon said: I tried it three times last year but it was not all that successful. Simon and his wife Elizabeth gave away free food last year including bags of squid worth £16 at their other outlet, Discount Food Supplies, on the towns Skippingdale Retail Estate This time the couple are extending their free grub offer to Food For Less, on the towns High Street, which opened last month. Father of two Simon said: All the food is tried, tested and warranted and people will be able to have two items each from the designated freezers. There is a range of fish, chicken, sausage, ice cream products and other lines to choose from. Its all good stuff. Simon said he was able to give away the food because he had obtained more than £1,500 worth of goods from manufacturers free of charge during his business transactions. He said: I got it for free so I dont see why I should make a profit from it like the major supermarkets do The free grub day on January 30 starts at Food For Less in the High Street at 9.30am and at Discount Food Supplies on Skippingdale at 10am.
