PLEASE READ>SHARE> AND CROSSPOST. This dog is now safe and being vetted. I can tell you for a FACT that Animal Control will NOT be pressing charges. I can tell you for a FACT the owners will NOT be cited because the way the dog was obtained. I have proof of this via email directly from LA County Animal Services. They feel there is/was no crime because of the way the dog was liberated. Since there was no human in danger and the dog was not running at large so it was a lower priority call. Because the general public stepped in (we felt the dog could not wait any longer) They will not investigate. I will post ACs response here in the thread and omit names for obvious reasons. If they have my name and see this posting I dont give a shit. This is one of our local County we are dealing with and I think a petition should be put in place to have charges filed. Let me work on the email to put it in a format here in the thread that will protect those involved. I will answer questions other then who, how, and when the dog was taken, and or any names. I need to check with my attorney to see if I can release ACs answer with the officers name. I will not do that until I speak with him on Monday. With enough SHARES, we can get a powerful petition going so they will have to act on it. Does anyone know how to start one up, and or it there someone that can do it for me ? (Im slammed) We can bring the owners to justice with numbers. Power in numbers. Please help me with this. BELOW IS THE EMAIL WE RECEIVED CUT AND PASTED WITH ONLY NAMES OMITTED. CAN YOU SAY BULLSHIT.......... Good Morning, (insert recipients name), I wanted to touch base with you regarding the dog that you took from a junkyard in Compton. I’m not sure how you came to acquire the dog, whether you stole her or not, but that’s not my main concern. Most likely, they will acquire another dog, and if you wish to take that one, you will have to steal that one, too. I noted your comment that you took the dog on your own, because if animal control had done it, “she wouldn’t make it.” I was disappointed in your comments. You have helped bring humane cases to us before, which resulted in charges against the owner and the seizure of animals. Of the animals on the Smith case, only one was euthanized due to its condition. All of the rest of the animals went on to get adopted. We have an almost entirely new veterinary team of caring, proactive veterinarians that would and could help this dog. We have helped dogs in similar and worse shape before. While the dog would have to have been held for a short amount of time while the procedural aspects played out, we would have worked with you if you wanted to adopt her, or even take her on foster until she became available. We’ve done it before. I can see from the photos that this dog is in horrible, horrible shape and this case would have most likely resulted in criminal charges, as well. I’m not if sure anyone has ever told you what we can achieve if we file a criminal animal cruelty case. If we had taken the dog, and filed charges, we could have gotten the following conditions after a conviction: Probation for the owner Owner would not be allowed to own or possess animals for a period of no less than three years, but as much as 10. We would get warrantless search and seizure which would allow us to lawfully remove any other animals that came into their possession. Possession of animals would be a probation violation and could result in jail time. Restitution for the costs to care for the dog I really wish you had allowed us to do our jobs. The way you have done it, there are no consequences for this person’s behavior, or for allowing this dog to suffer. And you will have to enforce your own vigilante justice, which is fleeting, and your actions may be illegal. I know the general consensus among rescue is that animal control is horrible and we never do the right thing. I think you know that’s not true. The fact is, we successfully file many animal cruelty cases every year, and most of the animals ultimately get adopted. We would have been more than happy to have filed this case, as well. Maybe we’ll get a chance with the next dog that this owner allows to suffer.
