PLEASE REMEMBER BLANKET DRIVE ON SATURDAY @ CARPET BARN IN TRIBUTE TO LEE, aka BICYCLE MAN... Goodbye to the icon under the bridge. For years a man lived under the bridge just outside Springfield on Hwy. 13. We would see him coming to his camp every night and pushing his bike up the hill to go where ever he did every day. We stopped several times to give him hand warmers, money, etc. We stopped last winter to give him some coats to which he replied, thanks, but I really dont need them; I have a warm coat. I asked if he needed blankets, no, I have warm blankets; do you need a tent, anything? He replied, I really dont, your heart is in the right place, but give those things to someone who really needs them. I have plenty and I really dont have room for any more stuff. I really appreciate it, but no, I dont need anything. I was amazed and very humbled by this man who lived under the bridge for so many years with apparently little to nothing (apparent to outsiders) but felt he had plenty. We never saw him standing on the street with a sign asking for anything--ever! This gentle person passed away; we were driving home and saw deputies and a gurney with what looked like a body that had been covered. I was sick and have been so sad at his passing. We, nor anyone we know, knew his name. We saw him everyday for years, spoke with him, and never knew his name. We always called him Bicycle Man. I just felt it should be said, you will be missed Bicycle Man, by so many of us who saw you, realized your integrity, and dedication to living loyal to yourself, never asking for anything, nor accepting anything you didnt need. You really did touch hearts your never knew.
