POE VOTES AGAINST CROMNIBUS, OPPOSES FUNDING PRESIDENT’S UNCONSTITUTIONAL IMMIGRATION ACTION WASHINGTON, D.C.—Today, Congressman Ted Poe (TX-02) issued the following statement on the Consolidated and Further Continuing Appropriations Act, 2015 (the so-called “CRomnibus”). “Today the House voted on a continuing resolution to fund the government through September. While there are many important provisions that were included in this appropriations package, such as cutting the IRS’s budget and supporting our ally, Israel, I could not support a bill that included funding for the President’s illegal and unconstitutional action: granting legal status to millions of people without the consent of Congress. This bill gave the President the rubber stamp he needed to fund his executive amnesty, and I could never support that.” “Before each vote Congress takes, there is always a procedural vote to establish the rules for debate for both sides. Today, I voted ‘yes’ on the rule for this appropriations bill. Why? Because a vote against the rule would have been a vote to block debate on this legislation. I believe this bill needed to be debated out in the open for the American people to see and for the American people to know where their representatives stood. Hiding behind a procedural vote is an easy way for politicians to not let people know where they really stand. I have been opposed to this bill from the start and welcomed the chance to debate it and vote against it.” ###
