POLICE OFFICERS CHARGED AFTER LYING UNDER OATH ABOUT FATAL POLICE SHOOTING It has been reported that four NSW Police Officers have been charged with perjury and giving false evidence after allegedly lying about the events surrounding the police shooting to death of 36 year old mentally-ill man Adam Salter in his fathers Lakemba home five years ago. It is alleged that Constable Aaron Abela, Sergeant Sheree Bissett, Sergeant Emily Metcalfe and Senior Constable Leah Wilson gave false evidence to the Police Integrity Commission (PIC), including evidence to the effect that the victim grappled with police before he was shot. The police version was contrary to the version given by paramedics who were at the scene and the victims father, who stated that there was no contact at all. The PIC was also highly critical of the way veteran Detective Inspector Russell Oxford investigated the fatal shooting, including his mishandling of evidence and witness accounts. The conduct of several other senior police was also criticised. The officers who have been charged will face Downing Centre Local Court in December.
