POLICE RECORDED 80 ROAD ACCIDENTSN, IN WHICH 11 PEOPLE LOST THEIR LIVES READ FULL STATEMENT BELOW; There has been a decrease in the number of accidents and fatalities reported this year as compared to last year during the same period. Eighty Road Traffic Accidents were recorded from 06: 00 hours 31st December, 2014 to 06:00 2nd January, 2015 as compared to 158 cases reported during the same period last year. Lusaka had the highest number of accidents reported totaling 35, Copperbelt 21 while Southern recorded six. Central, Eastern and Western provinces had four each. North-Western recorded three, Luapula two and the lowest being Northern Province which had one accident. No accident was recorded in Muchinga during the stated period. Of the 80 accidents, 11 lives were lost as compared to 2014 where we recorded 17 fatalities. This year, we recorded 16 serious and five with slight injuries while 2014 had 27 and 25 respectively. The 11 that lost their lives were from Lusaka, Copperbelt, Luapula, Eastern, Western and North-Western Provinces. We have also seen a decrease in the number of damage only accidents from 90 to 50. The decrease in the numbers is attributed to intensive patrols and adherence to road traffic rules by members of the public. CHARITY MUNGANGA-CHANDA POLICE SPOKESPERSON
