POLITICAL UPDATE - 9-16-14 - Re: Sam Mezayek Conversation Had a very long conversation with Councilman Mezayek. Hes a friendly and amicable personality. Im going with a pros and cons list for my summary of our conversation. Cons: ~He believes there will be a lot of resistance in City Council in adding an ordinance that would interfere with someones liberties. I respectfully reminded him that distracted driving was as potentially harmful as drunk driving and we have laws against that. ~He thinks there would be great difficulty in implementing such an ordinance. I had to let him know this has already been done - specifically Austin, TX and we would NOT have to recreate the wheel. (He did NOT know Austin had passed this ordinance) Pros: ~City Council is working with news stations and TxDot to start putting together a PSA project on Distracted Driving (any and all attention to this is good) ~Hes willing to look at Austins ordinance and implementation as well as statistics. How you can consider being allowed to play with your phone WHILE driving a LIBERTY that would be encroached upon, Im not quite sure... since its taken countless lives and cause even more injuries. This is where the safety of all involved get priority, imo. I have yet to find someone who is AGAINST this. I may just ask for all people OPPOSED to implementing this type of ordinance, as I would like to be prepared for all arguments.
