POLITICO Breaking News 07/24/2013 06:57 PM EDT (expires: 07/24/2013 07:57 PM EDT) The House voted 217- 205 this evening to reject an amendment that would have restricted the National Security Agency’s widespread collection of Americans’ phone records. Sponsored by Michigan Republican Rep. Justin Amash, the measure forced lawmakers to put themselves on record in support of the surveillance program revealed by former NSA contractor Edward Snowden, which critics say oversteps the Constitution’s protections against unreasonable search and seizure. The White House and the NSA both strongly opposed the measure.
