POSITIVE OUTCOMES of my mission to St Vincent and the Grenadines - TopicsExpress

POSITIVE OUTCOMES of my mission to St Vincent and the Grenadines to contribute to the storm relief efforts. I am in no way accredited by trip to influencing these positive developments. My role here is mainly to report to fb audience on any issues relating to policies and programmes relating to Climate change, the environment and development. a) An advertisement of post for a) Disaster Risk Reduction/Climate Change Adaptation Technical in SVG on the Devnetjobs website. Although I think this effort is late, I view it as a positive start to the development of appropriate policies and programmes to tackle climate change. One head teacher used to tell his staff whenever they were late for school It was better never than late. My view on this issues It is better later than never. b) The provision of $1 million to support tree planting and reforestation programmes in the hills in SVG. This was announced by PM during the last sitting of Parliament, last week (not sure whether it was US or EC$). Although, in my view it is a very meagre sum of money, however it is a positive start to addressing the Climate change issue. In my estimation it would take over 20 million trees to make any serious dent on the forest being cleared by the legal and illegal farming. This estimate is based on Neversons photos and my view of the mountains from a distance in North Leeward. My questions are - What will happen to the forest while the reforestation programme is being implemented? Would there be a total band on any further deforestation in the hills. What would be the role of the Ganga farmers in the rehabilitation of the forest in the hills. For this project to work the role of the ganga farmers would be critical. Therefore government must put measures in place to engage and involve them in such important programme. The question maybe be asked - who are these guys (male and female) and where would we find them. My simple answer is we know who they are and where they live. Those young persons who are interesting in the job below should check the appropriate authorities for information on the posting.
