POST DOC POST-DOCTORAL RESEARCH GRANT (BPD) (1 vacancy) REF. NORTE-07-0124-FEDER-000038-BPD-2013-01 Reference: A competition is open for the attribution of 1 Post-Doctoral Grant in the framework of the SR&TD Integrated Program “MARVALOR – Building research and innovation capacity for improved management and valorization of marine resources”, project “AQUAIMPROV – Sustainable Aquaculture and Animal Welfare”, with reference “NORTE-07-0124-FEDER-000038”, within the R&D Institution CIIMAR (Interdisciplinary Centre of Marine and Environmental Research), supported by ON2 - Programa Operacional Regional do Norte and co-funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), according to the following conditions: 1. Scientific area: Biological Sciences Sub research field: Nutrition and Animal Physiology 2. Admission requirements The candidates must hold a PhD in the field of Animal Science, Biological Sciences, Aquaculture, Nutrition, Biochemistry or related fields and have an exceptional publication track records in the area. Candidates should speak and write fluent English, and demonstrate capacity to perform independent research proposing new approaches for this project 3. Work plan: The research plan will focus on the nutritional quality and flesh attributes of Senegalese sole fed eco-friendly diets. The task will include growth trials and classic nutritional approaches to evaluate the metabolic utilization of nutrients; evaluation of flesh quality using nutritional, sensory and histological characteristics of the muscle, as well as biochemical and molecular toolboxes involved in muscle growth and texture. The main object of this project is to replace fish meal and fish oil by sustainable ingredients that can guarantee good growth potential and offer high flesh quality and high levels of omega-3 for human consumption. 4. Legislation and official rules: Law nº. 40/2004, 18th August (Research Fellowship and Studentship Regulation); Higher Education and Human Resources Qualification 2010 FCT and CIIMAR Grants Regulation. 5. Work place: The work will be carried out at CIIMAR, Laboratory of Nutrition, Growth and Quality of Fish (LANUCE), under the scientific supervision of Prof. Luisa Valente. 6. Duration of the grant: Duration of six (6) months, starting on July 2013, under the regime of exclusive dedication, eventually renewable according to legal terms, up to the 30th of June 2015. 7. Monthly maintenance stipend: The monthly maintenance allowance is €1495 (one thousand four hundred and ninety-five Euros - Taxes free) in agreement with the monthly maintenance stipend table of the grants directly attributed by FCT, I.P. within the country (alfa.fct.mctes.pt/apoios/bolsas/valores). 8. Selection methods: The ranking of candidates will be performed by a global evaluation based on: - Evaluation of the Curriculum Vitae -60%; - Interview – 40% (only the five top candidates will be interviewed). The Evaluation of the Curriculum Vitae will be performed according to the following criteria: i. Experience in nutrition studies - 30 % ii. Experience in flesh quality evaluation – 30% iii. Experience in molecular biology and bioinformatics – 15% iv. Published papers in the area – 25% 9. Form of Advertising/notification of results: The final results of the evaluation will be published through a list sorting the candidates according to their attributed mark, on the CIIMAR website and by e-mail; in case of disagreement, the candidates have a 10-working day term in which to contest the decision, if he/she so wishes, as provided for in the Código do Procedimento Administrativo in a preliminary hearing setting. The jury reserves the right to not assign the grant depending on the quality of the applications. 11. Deadline for application and presentation of applications: The competition is open from the 20th of June until 3rd of July 2013.
