POST-MIDNIGHT FELINE SOMNAMBULANCE: Im sitting up in bed with my laptop resting on my legs, surrounded by three sleeping male cats. I smile. Theyre big boys, one Russian Blue, one Grey Tabby, and one Black American Short Hair. They are content, and they truly love their Pop. Sasha, Freddie, and Sundae -- my three Felis catus bedroom pals, curled up together at the corner of the foot of the bed. No small feat, that, since each one is long and well-girthed (theyre just big-boned. My description and Im stickin to it.) Anyway, the lads are dreaming cat dreams and occasionally snoring, then readjusting to do what comes so naturally. I try not to disturb them as I lift my late night snifter of bourbon, making sure not to let the ice click too loud against the glass. Its a tough life, theirs, and I must be considerate. I would post a pic, but theyd just move before my phone could do the deed -- and, I hesitate to show the once red bed spread. Newly washed and changed this afternoon, it now has a thin fur veneer of grey, black and white. I can honestly say, it begins to grow as I lay the spread atop the bed. I never cease to be amazed. Cat hair, everywhere, invisible to the human eye -- until you least want it there. (Insert chuckling) Ive learned to savor the taste.
