POSTED: 10/16/13, 2:15 PM PDT | ONTARIO - The Ontario Police Department this month has received more than $800,000 in grants to conduct sobriety checkpoints and enforcement targeting unsafe driving. The California Office of Traffic Safety awarded the department a $307,197 grant for Avoid the 25 operations across San Bernardino County. Ontario also received a $300,000 OTS grant for special traffic enforcement and educating residents on traffic safety. Operations police plan to conduct through the grant include patrols focused on distracted driving, as well as speed and red-light enforcement. The Office of Traffic Safety awarded Ontario a $258,000 grant to conduct operations in the city targeting drunken driving.
