PRAYERS HELD FOR VICTIMS OF MALAYSIAN AIRLINES CRASH. By The Beacon-Hope FM All over Australia Flags were flown at half mast, as the European nation reflected on the tragedy that killed almost 300 people, including 38 Australian citizens and residents during the MH17 Malaysian Airlines crash. At least 1,800 people attended a national memorial service at St Patricks Cathedral in Melbourne to honour the victims. Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott joined politicians, dignitaries and families of victims at todays service. Around 160 immediate family members attended the service, as well as extended families. Speaking at the multi-faith service at the cathedral, the Catholic Archbishop of Melbourne, Denis Hart, said the country stood in solidarity with the victims families. Religious leaders of the Christian, Jewish, Hindu, Islamic and Buddhist faiths also offered their prayers at the cathedral, which was filled to capacity.
