PRESCOTT - The U.S. Forest Service is conducting controlled burns near Granite Basin Lake and planned others through Saturday on wildlands around the city, a USFS spokesperson said. Mondays burn, which was started about 10:45 a.m., was intended to burn about 250 acres of remains from a brush-crushing operation, which left chips and mulch on the ground, Debbie Maneely, Prescott National Forest spokesperson said. Similar burns are planned the rest of the week for a 125-acre area north of Thumb Butte Road; 14 acres near Skyline Drive; 89 acres between Iron Springs Road and Granite Basin near Black Jack Spring; and 450 acres west of Walker Road, south of The Ranch at Prescott.
