PRESIDENT SIRLEAF BIDS FAREWELL TO OUTGOING AMBASSADOR OF THE RUSSIAN FEDERATION, HE VLADIMIR BARBIN President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf has praised the outgoing Ambassador of the Russian Federation for the many accomplishments during his tenure here, making specific reference to the long-standing relationship that the two countries have fostered over the years. According to an Executive Mansion release, President Sirleaf made the assertion when she received in audience outgoing Ambassador, His Excellency Mr. Vladimir Barbin, who paid her a farewell courtesy call to conclude his tour of duty in Liberia. Ambassador Barbin has been his country’s envoy accredited to Liberia with residence in Accra, Ghana since March 2010. The Liberian leader stressed that during Liberia’s civil war both countries could not cooperate, but was glad that in 2006, the two countries re-established diplomatic relations which continues to strengthen. President Sirleaf welcome the pending Agreements expected to be signed between the two countries shortly, especially the Agreement aimed at combating drug trafficking; a serious challenge for Liberia and the rest of the world. The Liberian leader welcomed the Russian Federation’s investment interests in Liberia and assured Ambassador Barbin that there are parastatals with oversight responsibility in place to regulate and monitor all forms of public procurement and concession practices in Liberia; as such, no business entity should harbor any fear that it will be treated unfairly.
