PRESS RELEASE 08-05-14 On 08-04-14 at about 8:04pm Kankakee Police Officers were in the area of 200 N. Wildwood investigating a person in the area carrying a firearm. While officers were securing the area, shots were fired from the rear of the residence in the direction of the officers. Officers reported that they could hear the projectiles hitting in the trees right above their heads. Officers quickly moved toward the area they heard the shots coming from and observed 2 male subjects running from the area and gave chase. Kankakee Police along with the assistance of Kankakee County Sheriffs Police and KAMEG, were able to detain both individuals in the 1300 block of East Chestnut. During a search of the area police also recovered a .45 cal semi-automatic hand gun. Police also recovered spent shell casings in the 1000 block of E. Oak St. One home in the 200 block of N. Wildwood was struck by the gunfire. The suspects are identified as Mario L. Gray, 12-20-96, of Champaign II., and a 17 year old juvenile who lists a Bourbonnais II. address. Both were arrested and initially charged with Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm. The juvenile was released to the custody of a relative while Gray was transported to JCDC. Kankakee Police are still conducting interviews of witnesses and processing evidence from the scene.
