PRESS RELEASE 27.01.2014 Galloways point of order accuses Michael Gove of misleading parliament over Kings free school Bradford West MP George Galloway is to raise a point of order today in parliament (at 3.30pm or thereabouts) claiming education secretary Michael Gove misled the House. The point, in two parts, relates to statements Gove made in the House of Commons on January 6. Gove claimed that it was his department which informed police about a report alleging fraud at Kings Science Academy, and that the schools main benefactor, Conservative party vice-chairman Alan Lewis, had taken a reduced price on the site his company leased to the school. Neither of these statements is accurate, Galloway said. The secretary of states department sat on the report for five months and it only emerged that there was one, which alleged the fraud, after a brave whistleblower went to the media. As for the claim that Lewis took a financial hit in leasing the land to Kings, I have been asking for weeks for Lewis and Goves department to provide evidence. My last letter was more than two weeks ago demanding the secretary of state either retract his claims or, if not, to provide the transcript of the DfEs communication with the police - and also to provide figures on what Lewis previously received for renting the site. I havent had a reply. Neither has the secretary of state withdrawn his statements. I am asking Mr Speaker to ensure that I do get a reply and that Gove comes before the House to withdraw these statements.
